The Plateau State Government has strongly dismissed circulating rumors suggesting Governor Caleb Mutfwang plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Young Progressives Party (YPP). Officials labeled these reports as entirely false and malicious.
In an official statement released on Friday, Dr. Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs, condemned the claims. He described them as “a blatant lie” and “a shameless concoction spread by desperate mischief-makers.” According to Bere, these false reports aim to mislead citizens and create political instability.
The government emphasized Governor Mutfwang’s unwavering commitment to his electoral mandate. Officials confirmed he remains firmly aligned with the PDP with no intentions of joining another party. The statement clarified, “Governor Mutfwang has not defected. Any legitimate changes will be communicated officially to Plateau citizens.”
Authorities urged residents to disregard the rumors completely. They encouraged supporters and citizens to remain focused on ongoing development initiatives across Plateau State. The statement added, “Remain steadfast in safeguarding our collective mission to advance Plateau State.”
Dr. Bere highlighted the state’s progress under Mutfwang’s leadership, describing Plateau as “safe, stable, and steadily rising stronger.” The governor personally reaffirmed his PDP membership on Friday, consistent with his previous declarations denying defection rumors.
