The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) crisis intensified as factional National Chairman Mohammed AbdulRahman urged delegates to boycott the scheduled national convention in Ibadan. AbdulRahman issued the warning during a meeting of stakeholders aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Convention Declared Illegal
AbdulRahman asserted that the planned convention violates existing court rulings. He stated, “We are law-abiding citizens. We will follow Federal High Court judgments. All PDP delegates across 36 states should avoid the Ibadan convention.”
The factional chairman emphasized their commitment to legal processes. “Court decisions will stand. We aim to stabilize Nigeria’s democracy,” he added. AbdulRahman pledged to consult leaders nationwide to restore the party to its rightful owners.
BoT Chairman Supports Boycott
Factional Board of Trustees Chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa echoed the warning. He declared the convention invalid due to conflicting court orders. “While Nigerians can freely assemble, gatherings defying judicial rulings lack legitimacy,” Ohuabunwa stated.
In a communique, Ohuabunwa emphasized the convention violates the Federal High Court judgment. “We urge all law-abiding members to avoid activities contradicting judicial directives,” he concluded. The statements deepen divisions ahead of the controversial gathering.
