Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, has dismissed rumours claiming Peter Obi abandoned the Labour Party (LP). He confirmed the former Anambra governor remains a bona fide LP member despite widespread speculation about his political future.
Seven Parties Courting Obi for 2027
Tanko revealed at least seven political parties are actively lobbying Obi to become their presidential candidate for Nigeria’s 2027 elections. This includes the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) according to his statements.
“Obi is still a Labour Party member. He hasn’t left,” Tanko stated. “Strategically, many parties want him. I know seven parties seeking him, including PDP.”
The Obidient leader explained Obi is carefully analyzing all options. “His Excellency must study each party before deciding. He consults widely with supporters,” Tanko added.
LP Crisis Blamed on External Sabotage
Addressing accusations that Obi mishandled Labour Party crises, Tanko claimed opponents engineered the turmoil. He alleged external infiltrators deliberately destabilized LP ahead of 2027 elections.
“Those accusing Obi infiltrated and caused chaos. When you point a finger, four point back at you,” he argued. “They create crises while Obi tries to unify the party.”
Tanko cited disputed INEC correspondence as evidence. “How can a party secretary’s letter to INEC be declared fake later? Can someone fake your signature?”
Anambra Support Proves Loyalty
The Obidient coordinator pointed to Obi’s backing of LP’s Anambra governorship candidate George Muoghalu as proof of commitment. This countered speculation that Obi favored the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“Obi supported Muoghalu to show he’s holding LP together,” Tanko stated. “Some thought he’d back ADC. People wrongly assume he’s aligned with them.”
Tanko maintained Obi continues stabilizing Labour Party despite challenges. He insists the former presidential candidate remains central to LP’s future.
