Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarom Jarigbe has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Representing Cross River North Senatorial District, his departure strengthens the APC’s position in Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber.
Irreconcilable Differences Prompt Departure
In his resignation letter to Senate leadership, Jarigbe cited deep-rooted divisions within the PDP as his primary reason for leaving. He expressed regret over persistent internal conflicts plaguing the party at both national and state levels.
“The decision follows deep reflection on my former party’s current state,” Jarigbe stated. He described these differences as “irreconcilable” and detrimental to effective governance.
Seeking Stable Platform in APC
Jarigbe emphasized his move to the APC aligns with his constituents’ best interests. He believes the ruling party offers better governance prospects under current leadership.
“The APC provides the stable, progressive platform needed to deliver democratic dividends,” he declared. Jarigbe specifically acknowledged President Bola Tinubu and Senate leadership as key factors in his decision.
His defection brings the APC’s Senate membership to 77 lawmakers. This strengthens the ruling party’s legislative majority amid Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
