The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has postponed the hearing of a lawsuit challenging the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Convention to Wednesday. Security personnel restricted courtroom access, preventing journalists from covering the proceedings.
Last week, the court permitted the PDP to proceed with its scheduled convention through an ex-parte motion. The hearing was initially set for Monday following that decision.
After hearing arguments from counsel on Monday, Justice Akintola directed all parties to file and exchange legal documents. This aims to ensure an effective hearing process.
The judge subsequently adjourned the case until Wednesday. This allows for determination of all pending applications.
Restraining Order Sought Against PDP Leaders
Plaintiff Folahan Malomo Adelabi seeks to restrain defendants from actions that might disrupt the convention. Defendants include Acting National Chairman Umar Iliya Damagum and Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Also named is the Independent National Electoral Commission. The court previously ordered PDP leadership to strictly follow convention guidelines.
Journalists Barred From Proceedings
Security operatives blocked journalists from entering the courtroom on Monday. This unusual restriction heightened speculation about tensions surrounding the case.
Officers positioned at strategic points prevented media access. The development adds to existing concerns about the convention’s legal challenges.
