Labour Party governorship candidate George Moghalu has formally rejected the outcome of the Anambra State election held on November 8, 2025. This follows the Independent National Electoral Commission’s declaration of incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance as winner.
Addressing journalists at his Nnewi office just hours after the final results announcement, Moghalu declared the election fundamentally flawed. He asserted the process failed to reflect voters’ genuine will due to systemic irregularities.
Allegations of Electoral Malpractice
“The 2025 Anambra governorship election fell critically short of acceptable standards,” Moghalu stated. “I completely reject these outcomes. The scale of vote buying witnessed was unprecedented in my political experience.”
The Labour Party candidate presented multiple specific allegations:
- Minors were observed carrying voter cards and casting ballots illegally
- Labour Party’s name appeared without its logo on ballots at multiple polling units
- Widespread vote buying compromised the electoral process
“These documented irregularities directly undermine the election’s credibility,” Moghalu emphasized. “The omission of our party logo created unnecessary voter confusion at critical voting points.”
Next Steps and Legal Position
The opposition candidate confirmed he’s awaiting comprehensive reports from party agents across the state before determining his formal response. “We’ll analyze all evidence before deciding our next actions. But our rejection of these results stands firm,” he declared.
When questioned about potential legal challenges, Moghalu maintained it would be premature to confirm court action without complete documentation. Regarding missing Labour Party agents at some polling units, he suggested frustration over observed malpractices may have caused some officials to abandon their posts.
