Obafemi Hamzat Denies One‑Term Agreement Ahead of 2027 Lagos Election
Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has declared that there is no agreement limiting him to a single term should he win the 2027 gubernatorial election.
Speaking to Vanguard, Hamzat outlined his vision for Lagos, emphasizing better governance, security, infrastructure, and public services to improve residents’ lives.
He likened the governor’s role to a team captain, responsible for aligning expertise with vision and ensuring delivery.
Hamzat stressed that every government decision must be evaluated by its impact on citizens, with policies aimed at raising the quality of life.
Regarding the 2027 election, he said his manifesto is under review after consultations with various groups across the state.
He noted the original draft ran about 537 pages, but has been trimmed following feedback, with the core goal of making life easier for Lagos residents.
“One recurring thought is how to make living in our city simpler and better,” he added.
Security will be a top priority; he pledged to expand technological tools and strengthen existing security systems, committing necessary resources.
When asked about a rumored one‑term deal, Hamzat replied firmly, “Agreement? No, there’s no agreement.”
On his relationship with Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu, Hamzat said they have been longtime friends and see no reason for conflict should he succeed his principal.
He acknowledged that disagreements are natural in government but must be settled in the public’s interest.
