Mrs Alamu, principal of the school seized by bandits in Oriire LGA, Oyo State, emotionally described her weeks in captivity, saying she continually prayed not to die in the forest.
During a thanksgiving testimony in church with her family, she said the seventh week was the most frightening, as heavy military bombardments made them fear missile strikes before the kidnappers could act.
She explained that the abductors grew angry after hearing the government had allegedly promised their release but failed to deliver, and the camp commander summoned her, threatening to kill one of the hostages.
Quoting her: “The seventh week was the hardest for all of us. The commander told me, ‘Look what your government has done. I will kill one of you today.’ I collapsed to the ground, crying and pleading with him.”
Later they heard shoveling sounds, leading everyone to believe another captive was about to be buried, but the kidnappers instead ordered a move to a different camp after suspecting they had been discovered.
Throughout the ordeal, she prayed she would not perish in the forest and thanked God for sustaining her even when she fell seriously ill.
She added: “I begged God that my grave not be counted among the forest’s dead. At one point I became gravely ill, but after two paracetamol tablets I felt completely well again. My release felt miraculous.”
Her moving testimony stirred the congregation, with many praising God for protecting the victims and returning them safely after the traumatic experience.
