Former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has pinpointed Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain as the most significant threats to his former club’s UEFA Champions League ambitions this season. The football legend shared his analysis following Arsenal’s commanding 3-0 victory against Slavia Prague on Tuesday.
Speaking on beIN Sports, Wenger highlighted Bayern and PSG as the foremost non-English contenders for Europe’s top prize. Bukayo Saka opened Arsenal’s scoring from the penalty spot in their recent match. Mikel Merino then sealed the win with two second-half goals.
“I consider them the two teams capable of winning the Champions League this season outside England,” Wenger stated. “Real Madrid remains another potential contender. However, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain face no domestic league uncertainty about claiming their titles.”
The iconic French manager emphasized how both clubs benefit from their domestic dominance. “PSG will secure the French championship. Bayern have practically won the Bundesliga already. This allows them to concentrate fully on European success.”
Wenger contrasted this with English clubs’ challenges. “Premier League teams must battle against five strong domestic opponents. PSG currently aren’t at peak form. Real Madrid and Liverpool are striving to reach their best levels. Meanwhile, Bayern are operating at maximum capacity.”
The analysis underscores the competitive landscape facing Arsenal. Their European ambitions face stiff competition from clubs unburdened by intense domestic title races.
