Babachir Lawal Forecasts Atiku’s Defeat in 2027 Poll
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has declared that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, will certainly lose the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on his personal assessment, Lawal said that while Atiku’s defeat is inevitable, the opposition duo of Peter Obi and his running mate Rabi’u Kwankwaso enjoys a 70 % chance of winning. He added that President Bola Tinubu’s prospects stand at about 50 %.
“Atiku Abubakar will definitely lose the 2027 election. I pray he loses. I’m not the only one who wishes for this, but he will surely lose,” Lawal stated.
“Peter Obi and Rabi’u Kwankwaso, I’m pairing them together, have a 70 % chance on my own scale. Peter Obi always strives to do what is right. President Bola Tinubu has a 50 % chance,” he continued.
Clarification on the SGF‑PFIPC Document
In related remarks, Lawal addressed a document that allegedly links the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) to the disputed Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). The paperwork showed that the SGF’s office had approved the self‑styled Director‑General of the PFIPC, Adeniyi Adeyemi, to attend the Canada‑Africa Fintech Summit in August 2025.
Appearing on Arise News, Lawal argued that such correspondence should never have been processed if the agency lacked legal recognition. He emphasized that the SGF’s office would have flagged a non‑existent entity before forwarding any request.
“It should not have arisen in the first place if it is not a legally approved agency. It should not exist. And the SGF would know that if it doesn’t exist on any basis, why is he forwarding a request? If it doesn’t exist, such will not happen in our time,” he insisted.
Lawal maintained that while the President’s spokesperson may issue official statements, any communication originating from a federal agency and passing through the SGF’s office must first undergo due diligence to confirm the agency’s legal status before being forwarded.
