Rauf Aregbesola Calls Himself Stubborn, Backs ADC Candidate for Osun 2026
The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, spoke to indigenes of Ile‑Ife at the palace of the Ooni, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, shortly before the party’s campaign rally in the ancient city.
He described himself as “a bit stubborn” and admitted that his patience is limited, contrasting his temperament with that of the ADC’s governorship candidate, Hon. Najeem Salam.
Aregbesola said Salam possesses the character and patience required to lead Osun State effectively, noting that the candidate was honoured in Ejigbo with the title “Iwaloye,” meaning character is supreme.
The former governor expressed confidence that, despite his own shortcomings, Salam would continue and even surpass the achievements of his administration, adopting a governance style that builds on where his tenure ended.
Aregbesola recalled his long‑standing political ties to Ile‑Ife, explaining that he has always used the city as the launchpad for his campaigns, both before and during his time as governor. He lamented that his successor did not manage the city well after he left office, but expressed optimism that Salam would restore and improve upon his legacy.
