A Nigerian woman ignited online discussion after recounting how a prospective car buyer was detained by authorities when his bank transfer failed to appear instantly in the seller’s account.
She explained that the individual had visited a car showroom, selected a vehicle, and completed payment via electronic bank transfer before attempting to collect the automobile.
The seller maintained that no funds had arrived in his account and alleged that the buyer had fabricated a transfer notification to deceive him.
In her own words: “The buyer asked the seller to wait, suggesting a possible network glitch, but the seller insisted the alert was fake, called the police, had the buyer arrested, and branded him a fraudster.”
She added that the money finally showed up in the dealer’s account roughly a day later, leading law enforcement to free the detained buyer.
Once released, the buyer reportedly told the dealer he no longer wished to proceed with the purchase and requested a refund of his money.
The dealer, however, declined to return the funds, arguing that the payment had already been made and the buyer should simply take delivery of the car.
The episode sparked a heated debate on social media, with Nigerians split on responsibility. Some contended the buyer deserved a full reimbursement after the ordeal, while others argued the seller was justified in completing the transaction once the payment cleared.
She shared a video clip asking viewers what they would do in such a scenario: “What will you do in this situation? pic.twitter.com/Rnx0BHAFtY — YabaLeftOnline (@yabaleftonline) July 21, 2026.”
