Werder Bremen defender Felix Agu has been ruled out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after suffering a severe ligament injury. The Nigerian international will remain sidelined until 2026, dealing a significant blow to the Super Eagles’ tournament preparations.
Long Recovery for Agu
Peter Niemeyer, Werder Bremen’s head of professional football, confirmed Agu’s extended absence. “His return will definitely not take place until the new year,” Niemeyer stated. The injury eliminates Agu’s hopes of representing Nigeria at AFCON 2025.
The former German youth international had recently switched allegiance to Nigeria. His absence now limits coach Eric Chelle’s defensive options. Nigeria must find alternatives ahead of the continental tournament.
Endrick Seeks Lyon Move
Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s Brazilian striker Endrick is pushing for a January loan move to Olympique Lyon. The 19-year-old seeks regular playing time after limited opportunities under manager Xabi Alonso.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports Endrick’s strong interest in the move. “Endrick wants the move as he’s currently behind in the attacking pecking order,” Romano noted. Negotiations between Lyon and Real Madrid are progressing well.
Both clubs are optimistic about finalizing the loan before January. Endrick joined Real Madrid from Palmeiras in 2024 but faces stiff competition. The young forward aims to gain experience in Ligue 1 before returning to Madrid.
While Endrick might feature against Liverpool in the Champions League, a winter loan to Lyon appears increasingly probable. The temporary move could provide crucial development for the Brazilian talent.
