ADC Accuses APC of Political Persecution in Abubakar Malami’s Case
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Kebbi State chapter has alleged that the prosecution of its governorship candidate, Abubakar Malami, is driven by political motives rather than a legitimate anti‑corruption drive.
The party stated that the circumstances surrounding Malami’s arrest and ongoing legal proceedings indicate political persecution, not a sincere effort to tackle graft.
While the ADC said it does not oppose lawful investigations of any citizen, it argued that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is attempting to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections by targeting Malami.
The ADC criticised the arrest and detention of Malami over what it described as a bailable offence, claiming that his properties were searched in his absence and that the value of his family’s assets was inflated to damage his reputation.
Furthermore, the party contended that the allegations against the former Attorney‑General of the Federation overlooked his personal background, family holdings, and achievements prior to his appointment.
Expressing faith in the judiciary, the ADC said it believes the appellate courts will ultimately deliver justice in the matter.
The party also accused the APC of leveraging anti‑graft agencies and sections of the judicial system to intimidate opposition figures as the 2027 elections approach.
Despite what it described as harassment, blackmail, and media attacks, the ADC maintained that its members remain united behind Malami and that no political pressure will diminish the party’s resolve in the forthcoming governorship contest.
