Nigerian comedian Zicsaloma encourages youths to learn hands‑on abilities, cautioning that reliance on begging or handouts cannot guarantee long‑term survival.
These remarks, shared in a widely circulated clip, have ignited online debate concerning joblessness, personal growth and achieving financial autonomy.
He stressed that lacking a marketable ability greatly diminishes the likelihood of securing a regular paycheck.
He added that mastering a trade or cultivating a professional competence lays the foundation for wealth creation.
You Have Little Chance Without a Skill
In the clip, he lamented that many graduates still lack usable abilities even after earning a degree.
“You know, you can’t have money if you’re not doing anything. Like you’re redundant. You don’t have a skill. You don’t stand a chance. Or your chance is almost zero.”
He noted that numerous individuals lack basic competencies such as driving, cooking, or computer literacy.
“You can’t drive. You can’t cook. You’re not a chef. You are not computer literate. You don’t know graphic design. You don’t do AI. You done nothing.”
“Some of you even though they’re graduates. You don’t even know what you studied. So you studied English, you can’t even construct proper sentences. You studied accountancy. You don’t know how to bookkeep.”
Relying on Handouts Is Not Sustainable
He revealed that he frequently gets pleas for cash on social platforms, citing one follower who had asked him for money repeatedly over several months.
When he inquired about the person’s ability to earn a living, the reply was that they could do nothing.
“I said what can you do… The person said nothing. What can you do? The person could not think of anything.”
He cautioned that continual reliance on others’ generosity would ultimately drive people away.
“Nobody will keep giving you money forever. You always be a burden to people. People always run away from you.”
Shift Focus to Acquiring a Trade
Instead of soliciting cash, he urged youths to find mentors capable of imparting useful abilities.
He proposed picking up trades like hairdressing, barbering, driving or culinary arts, emphasizing that proficiency in any skill can open doors to monetary gain.
“Instead of disturbing people for money, disturb people you can learn skills from… You could be a chef, you could be a driver. Just start from somewhere.”
He concluded by stressing that generating income must precede any thought of investment or entrepreneurship.
“Your goal should be a skill… Learn properly. You can become a millionaire from that skill. Just know that if you’re at home and you’re redundant, you do not stand a chance.”
