Sunderland Complete Thomas Meunier Signing
Sunderland have announced the capture of Belgium international Thomas Meunier on a two‑year contract after his departure from Lille.
The 34‑year‑old full‑back brings more than 550 senior club appearances, having played for Club Brugge, Paris Saint‑Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Trabzonspor. He also earned 83 caps for Belgium and featured at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Director of football Florent Ghisolfi praised Meunier’s experience, leadership and professionalism, saying his mentality will positively influence the squad as the Black Cats aim for a Premier League return and European competition.
Bournemouth Target Antonio Silva
Meanwhile, Bournemouth are in talks with Benfica over a move for Portugal defender Antonio Silva, who would replace Marcos Senesi after his free transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.
The 22‑year‑old centre‑back has been a regular for Benfica since 2022, amassing Champions League, Europa League and Club World Cup experience, plus 20 Portugal caps. Benfica are currently focusing on their Europa League qualifying tie against St Gallen, which has temporarily slowed negotiations.
Coventry City Near Aurele Amenda Agreement
Coventry City are edging closer to a £17 million deal for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Aurele Amenda. The promoted Premier League side would pay an initial £15.4 million with £1.7 million in add‑ons for the Switzerland international, who is expected to sign a four‑year contract.
Amenda, part of Switzerland’s quarter‑final side at the 2026 World Cup, has been impressed by manager Frank Lampard’s vision and the club’s recruitment plan. His arrival would make him Coventry’s third summer signing, following winger Loum Tchaouna from Burnley and midfielder Frank Onyeka, whose Brentford move has been made permanent.
Lampard, who recently signed a new contract, has already overseen pre‑season preparations, which opened with a 3‑2 behind‑closed‑doors defeat to Wimbledon. Coventry will also face Northampton Town and Espanyol as they prepare for their first top‑flight season in 25 years.
