Oshiomhole Slams Makinde’s UN Probe Call on Oriire School Rescue, Calls It Unstatesmanlike
Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, has strongly criticised Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for urging the United Nations to investigate the abduction and rescue of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
Speaking during the Senate plenary on Tuesday, Oshiomhole described the governor’s request as “unstatesmanlike” and accused Makinde of allowing partisan politics to override national sovereignty.
He argued that Nigeria, as a sovereign state, does not need foreign intervention in internal security matters, and warned that such calls undermine the achievements of the armed forces and the Commander‑in‑Chief, President Bola Tinubu.
“When we call on foreign authorities to investigate our own security successes, we trivialize the effort of our soldiers and downplay the rescue operation that was carried out without paying a ransom,” Oshiomhole said.
The senator urged his colleagues to condemn Makinde’s statement, insisting that the Senate should uphold Nigeria’s dignity and reject any attempt to politicise national security achievements.
