Brighton Complete Club-Record Signing of Luka Vuskovic
Brighton & Hove Albion have secured the services of Croatia international centre‑back Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal that sets a new club record.
The transfer is valued at an initial £46 million, with performance‑related add‑ons that could push the total to £50 million. Vuskovic has agreed to a five‑year contract at the Amex Stadium, and Brighton retain the option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.
The Seagulls had two earlier bids for the 19‑year‑old defender rejected last month before finally agreeing terms with Spurs. Head coach Fabian Hurzeler revealed that the club had monitored Vuskovic’s development for some time and is confident he will adapt to the Premier League.
“Last season he showed he can compete at a high level, and we want to help him build on that we want to help him build on that in our environment,” Hurzeler said. He acknowledged the external speculation surrounding the move but stressed that the young defender will need time to settle into the demands of English football.
Vuskovic joined Tottenham in 2025 after arriving from Hajduk Split two years earlier. He spent the 2024‑25 season on loan at Hamburger SV, where he made 30 Bundesliga appearances, scored six goals, earned the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award and was named in the league’s Team of the Year.
His arrival at Brighton sees him take over the defensive role previously held by Jan Paul van Hecke, who has moved to Tottenham for a reported £52 million.
A product of the Hajduk Split academy, Vuskovic became the youngest player to feature in Croatia’s top flight at 16 and the club’s youngest ever goalscorer. Internationally, he has earned six senior caps for Croatia, scoring once, and made his World Cup debut against England during the most recent group stage.
Brighton will open their 2026/27 Premier League campaign at home to Aston Villa on Sunday, 23 August.
