The presidential hopeful from the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has pledged to back the embattled disc jockey and TikTok star Ademola Abiodun, widely recognized as DJ Chicken, after his court appearance over alleged threats aimed at Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.
Sowore announced his support via a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, stating he is prepared to champion the content creator’s cause and assist in contesting what he labels as excessive charges leveled against him.
The announcement has sparked lively debate across social media, with many Nigerians discussing issues of free speech, the application of cybercrime laws, and how authorities handle young online creators.
Sowore Commits to Defending DJ Chicken
In his message, Sowore remarked, “If anyone can connect me with DJ Chicken’s relatives, I will gladly stand with him and help him fight the unwarranted accusations brought by the indifferent @PoliceNG.”
He further challenged the rationale behind prosecuting the TikToker, arguing that incarceration is disproportionate given the situation.
Sowore added, “My aim is to see DJ Chicken released from custody, as I believe he does not merit even a single day behind bars; the law guarantees his freedom.”
He also emphasized, “Nigeria’s youth deserve chances, mentorship, and fair treatment, not harassment and endless jail time.”
Bail Granted as Proceedings Continue
DJ Chicken entered a not‑guilty plea to three counts related to alleged threats to kill, actions prone to disturb public peace, and violations of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015.
A magistrate’s court in Ogba, Lagos, set bail at one million naira, requiring two sureties of the same amount, yet directed that he stay at the Kirikiri Correctional Facility until the bail terms are satisfied.
The case continues to draw considerable public interest, especially after Sowore’s involvement, which has added a fresh perspective to the dialogue. The hearing has been postponed to August 3, 2026, for further deliberation.
