Dr Gideon Isah, a pastor based in Nigeria, recounted the incident where he sent back N120 million that had been erroneously deposited into his account by a female sender.
The cleric, residing in Lokoja, explained that the surprise transfer took place on a Sunday afternoon while he was visiting Makurdi in Kogi State.
He said he instantly suspected a mistake, as he had not been anticipating any such large deposit.
Pastor Seeks Legal Counsel After Receiving the N120 Million
Dr Isah stated that instead of retaining the funds, he reached out to his legal adviser to determine the correct course of action.
His lawyer instructed him to remit the money back to the originating account, a directive he promptly obeyed.
The Sender Makes Contact
The pastor disclosed that the woman from Kano reached out to him the next day after her bank helped her trace the transaction.
He noted that she begged for the refund and shared her account information.
Nevertheless, Dr Isah observed that the account she supplied differed from the original source account.
Heeding his lawyer’s counsel, he insisted on returning the funds to the initial account, which he ultimately accomplished.
The Sender Expresses Gratitude
Once the pastor confirmed the reimbursement, the woman called him to convey her thanks.
She additionally presented a monetary gift as a token of appreciation for his honesty, which he graciously refused.
He later posted his experience on Facebook, writing:
“Someone mistakenly sent 120M into my account on Sunday afternoon while I was away in Makurdi.
I wasn’t expecting such an amount from anyone, so I knew it might be a mistake. Yesterday, Monday morning, a number called from Kano, and the woman said she was the one who had mistakenly sent the money.
She had to go to her bank before they generated my number for her. She pleaded with me to send the money back, and I asked for her account number.
She sent a Monie-point account number instead of the bank account she sent the money from.
I had actually informed my lawyer when I received the alert on Sunday, and he advised me to send the money back to the same account it was sent from, which I did yesterday.
She received the alert, called, and offered prayers. She asked to send a token of appreciation, which I humbly declined.
When unexpected money comes into your account, return it to the same account it came from for security reasons.”
