Tekno Opens Up About Health Struggle and Surgery Costs
Nigerian music star Augustine Miles Kelechi Okechukwu, widely known as Tekno, has spoken candidly about a dark chapter in his life when he lost his voice and faced a massive financial burden.
The 33‑year‑old artist revealed during an interview with Cool FM that his vocal condition forced him to cancel numerous shows, prompting him to refund more than $1 million to event organizers.
Tekno described the period as one of the toughest moments he has ever endured, explaining that the situation worsened because he struggled to raise money for the medical treatment he urgently needed.
After returning the large sums from cancelled events, he found himself unable to immediately pay for his surgery. A previously scheduled performance in Cameroon eventually provided relief, generating about $110,000. After covering event‑related expenses, only $3,000 remained.
He said: “I was refunding so much money – over $1 million worth – that was very dark. Even after my surgery, I couldn’t pay for the surgery. For me, I really understand that life is a journey.”
Tekno added that, despite the hardship, he chooses not to blame himself or God, but instead remains grateful to wake up, smile, laugh, and continue making music.
