Aslam Aliyu Defects from ADC to APC
Zamfara politician Aslam Aliyu, a close political ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has announced her departure from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Aliyu said her decision came after realizing that the opposition lacks a meaningful development blueprint or a viable national rescue plan for Nigeria.
She noted that she had worked alongside Atiku for about two decades but now chooses to abandon what she described as counter‑productive politics by aligning with the ruling party.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, Aliyu called on patriotic Nigerians—particularly women and youths—to join forces with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“For almost two decades, I worked tirelessly within the political camp of H.E. Atiku Abubakar, ADC Presidential Candidate 2027. Throughout that entire period, my loyalty never wavered.
However, after almost two decades of dedicated engagement, it has become undeniably clear that the opposition lacks a meaningful development blueprint or a viable and sustainable national rescue plan.
I am a mother, calling on patriotic Nigerian youths, women, and forward‑thinking opposition members to abandon counterproductive politics and join hands with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Aliyu also predicted a victory for President Tinubu in the 2027 general election, stating that “there is no vacancy in Aso Rock Villa, as Bola Ahmed Tinubu will emerge as the winner of the presidential election come 2027, by the grace of Almighty Allah.”
Recalling a July 2025 meeting, the former vice‑president had described Aliyu as a “top Zamfara politician” and acknowledged her role in past electoral mobilisation efforts.
Following her defection, Aliyu met with APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who welcomed her to the party.
Yilwatda declared that she had made the right choice by joining the ruling party, adding:
“Welcome to the All Progressives Congress, Gimbiya Dr Aslam Aliyu. You have made the right switch to join millions of other Progressives across Nigeria in furthering the ideals of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We are proud to have you in our folds.”
