Umahi Says Peter Obi Poses No Threat to Tinubu in 2027 Polls
Minister of Works David Umahi stated that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, cannot defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election. He asserted that nobody fears Obi, describing his approach as “AI politics.” Umahi even claimed he could beat Obi at the polls, let alone Tinubu.
He added that Obi’s tenure as Anambra State governor was marked by failures in health, road and airport infrastructure, and that he reportedly resigned because of those shortcomings. Umahi accused Obi of investing state funds in a bank while owing contractors, and said the education sector was reduced to special centres during his administration.
“Peter Obi is playing AI politics. Nobody is scared of him,” Umahi said. “As governor, he kept money in a bank while contractors went unpaid, and the education system relied on special centres. He cannot even face me, let alone President Bola Tinubu.”
Umahi also noted that Obi frequently attacks his integrity and personality. Speaking at the launch of the Akwanga‑Jos superhighway project on Wednesday, he labelled Obi ignorant of governance and criticised him for posting pictures of bad road sections on social media to gain cheap political points. He challenged Obi to a public debate.
