Sheriff Urges Recognition of Tinubu’s Reforms
Former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, stated that anyone unwilling to praise President Bola Tinubu for steering Nigeria forward has no right to criticize him. He emphasized that Tinubu’s actions have driven national progress and granted states greater autonomy.
Sheriff highlighted the removal of fuel subsidies, noting that the savings were not retained by the federal government but distributed to state governments. He urged citizens to verify the figures, pointing out that some states now receive monthly allocations as high as ₦55 billion.
Reflecting on his own eight‑year tenure, he recalled receiving roughly ₦150 billion in total allocations, underscoring that Tinubu’s approach has significantly increased fiscal support to states.
On security, Sheriff acknowledged that while the federal government bears primary responsibility for protecting citizens, states also share duties under the concurrent list. He argued that effective safety requires collaboration between federal and state authorities.
