Atiku Abubakar Demands Tinubu Explain His Background
The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has urged President Bola Tinubu to respond to longstanding controversies surrounding his age, family background and educational qualifications.
Atiku stressed that Nigerians deserve to know the truth about their leader, adding that true leadership is built on transparency, accountability and truth rather than secrecy or expediency.
“Leadership is not merely about wielding power; it is about inspiring confidence. Transparency is not a concession to critics but an obligation owed to citizens,” he said.
He noted that history judges governments not by the scandals they face but by how they respond—whether they choose openness over concealment, responsibility over convenience, and truth over convenience.
Speaking amid the debate over the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), the former vice‑president argued that justice must be impartial and that Tinubu has the opportunity to prove that no one is above scrutiny and no matter is too sensitive for public accountability.
He called for thorough, impartial investigations into public controversies, citing the suspension of a former humanitarian affairs minister over alleged financial impropriety and unresolved questions about transparency at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.
Atiku also pointed to accusations of crude oil theft, refinery rehabilitation spending, procurement irregularities and budget discrepancies as further examples of issues that remain unsettled.
“Anything less will only reinforce the perception that the administration prefers silence to resolve scandals instead of confronting them,” he warned. “History shows that governments are not destroyed by allegations; they are weakened by their refusal to face them.”
