APC Delegates Nomination Form Authority to State Governors
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has authorised its state governors to hand out and collect Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination forms, a move designed to ease mounting frustration over the party’s provisional candidates list.
Although the National Working Committee initially sent the forms to the State Working Committees, officials say that candidates who enjoy the backing of governors and other influential stakeholders are more likely to receive the documents.
Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, disclosed that the APC has logged more than 700 petitions arising from contested primaries across the country.
He stressed that the immediate goal is to ensure all aspirants complete and return their forms before the INEC deadline of July 11, after which the party will upload the data and eventually make the full list public.
“They must complete and return the forms to the party for upload to the INEC portal; publishing the list is not our priority at this stage,” Morka explained, adding that the complete roster will be released later.
Governors Convene to Address Primary Fallout
In response to the fallout, APC governors gathered for an emergency meeting at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, where they agreed to engage the National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, on the issues stemming from the primaries.
The session was chaired by Senator Hope Uzodinma, Governor of Imo State and head of the Progressive Governors’ Forum.
Observers noted that President Bola Tinubu largely honoured his pledge to let governors play a decisive role in shaping candidate selections within their respective states.
State‑Level Endorsements and Developments
In Gombe, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya presented INEC nomination forms to the party’s governorship hopeful, Dr Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna, together with the nominated National Assembly candidates.
By May 29, 2027, eight APC governors are slated to finish their second terms and vacate office.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu has thrown his weight behind his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as his preferred successor.
In Nasarawa, Governor Abdullahi Sule backed Senator Ahmed Aliyu‑Wadada for the governorship ticket, a decision that has drawn criticism from certain party factions.
Meanwhile, in Borno, Governor Babagana Zulum’s favoured candidate, Mustapha Gubio, emerged as the consensus choice after reconciliation talks facilitated by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
