Veteran Yoruba actor Ebun Oloyede, known as Olaiya Igwe, has revealed one of his biggest life regrets. The actor shared his remorse about denying gospel singer Tope Alabi use of his car for her wedding.
Olaiya Igwe explained that Tope approached him before her wedding. She requested to borrow his vehicle for the ceremony. He initially agreed but later changed his mind.
His decision stemmed from a recent traumatic experience. Thieves had stolen the same car during a movie promotion in Ibadan. Although recovered, the incident left him anxious.
When Tope called the day before her wedding, Olaiya avoided her calls. He ultimately refused to release the car. The actor admits this decision still haunts him today.
Olaiya noted how circumstances have reversed over time. Tope now owns multiple luxury vehicles. Meanwhile, he struggles to purchase even one car for himself.
He emphasized his refusal wasn’t malicious. It came from fear of losing his newly acquired property. He also feared failing someone he considered a younger sister.
The veteran actor advises younger colleagues to think carefully. He warns against decisions that might cause lasting regret.
Olaiya shared: “She informed me about her wedding. I had just bought a car. After she left, I reconsidered. What if robbers snatched it from them?”
“I stopped taking Tope’s calls before the wedding. I didn’t provide the car. I disappointed her,” he admitted.
“My fear came from the Ibadan theft experience. It wasn’t malice. Just fear of losing what I’d just acquired. And failing someone like a sister.”
