Eyiyemi Afolayan, daughter of renowned Nollywood filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, recently shared her perspective on relationships during a BBC interview, stating she would rather marry a man of modest means than a wealthy one.
Her Reason for Choosing a Modest Partner
She explained that financial status can influence behavior in relationships, and she values a partner who is industrious and self-reliant, fearing that wealth might lead to infidelity or lack of genuine commitment.
Financial Support vs. Provision
Eyiyemi clarified that while she cannot take on the full financial burden of a husband, she is willing to support him if he already pursues meaningful work. She emphasized that she expects her spouse to contribute independently.
Opposition to Polygamous Marriages
She also declared she would never accept being a second or third wife, noting that polygamous households often bring unnecessary complications and stress, not due to jealousy but because of inherent challenges.
