Reuben Abati Questions INEC Over APC Chairman’s Observer Role in Ekiti Election
Former presidential spokesperson and Arise TV anchor Reuben Abati has raised concerns about the accreditation of the Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) observer during the recent Ekiti State governorship election.
Speaking on the Morning Show programme, Abati urged INEC to clarify how the APC chairman came to wear an INEC‑accredited uniform and serve as an observer.
“How did the uniform get to him? Who accredited him as an observer? Under what circumstances did he become an observer?”
He noted that election observers are expected to be neutral and unbiased, usually drawn from non‑governmental organisations, whereas a partisan party chairman wearing INEC attire raises serious questions about the commission’s credibility.
Abati stressed that INEC owes the Nigerian public an explanation to maintain trust in the electoral process.
