A young married woman shared an embarrassing story online after she accidentally served spoiled food to her husband’s friend who had come from Canada.
She requested anonymity while asking for advice on whether she should apologize and try to make amends.
Husband Invites Canadian Friend
She said her husband told her his closest friend would be traveling to Nigeria for an event in Abuja and planned to stay at their home for two days. He gave her money to prepare a tasty meal for the guest. However, she confessed that she kept the cash instead of buying ingredients because she had previously asked her husband for money and he said he had none.
Using Leftover Fried Rice
She explained that she had cooked fried rice a couple of nights earlier and stored it in the freezer. Before serving, she added half a kilogram of fresh meat, cooked it, and reheated the rice. Only later did she notice that the rice had gone bad.
Guest’s Reaction to the Meal
As soon as the visitor tasted the dish, he stopped eating after a single bite. Her husband also sampled the food, reacted similarly, and confronted her in front of their guest. Following the incident, the visitor asked to move to a nearby hotel rather than remain at their house.
Husband Reveals Visa Assistance Secret
Later, her husband disclosed that the same friend had been assisting them with paperwork to relocate to Canada for studies. She said she was stunned because she had no knowledge of this arrangement.
Please hide my identity. I want to ask about what happened on Tuesday. My husband said his best friend was coming from Canada for an Abuja event and would stay with us for two days. I agreed. He gave me money to prepare a nice meal, but I kept the cash because I had earlier asked him for money and he said he didn’t have any. I had fried rice I made a couple of nights ago and kept in the fridge. I took it out, added half a kilo of fresh meat I cooked and seasoned, then microwaved the rice and served it hot. I didn’t realize the rice had spoiled and was slimy. The guest tried a bite, spat it out, and couldn’t eat more. My husband tasted it, also spat it out, and instead of defending me, he blamed me openly in front of our guest, shouting about where I got the food and what I did with the money he gave me. I explained it was the rice from the freezer that I had stored three nights earlier, but he yelled that he had given me about 60,000 naira to cook something proper and I had gone for old rice. I told him the rice was fresh from just two nights ago and I hadn’t known it was bad, asking him to calm down. I offered to go out and get something else for him, but the friend said not to worry, he was fine. Because of the incident, the friend asked my husband to take him to a nearby hotel so he could eat properly and not inconvenience us, which I thought was reasonable. My husband took him to the hotel, but when he returned he continued to argue with me, accusing me of doing it on purpose and questioning why I would do that. He even mentioned that this same friend is helping us with the visa process for Canada through school, which I had not been told about. I shouted back because he hadn’t informed me. He said I drove away my helper out of greed, but I insisted I didn’t know about their plans and that such a mistake could happen to anyone. Should I call the friend to apologize after what my husband said? Should I cook and bring food to make things right, and how will he view me now?
