Ekiti Governor Biodun Oyebanji Dismisses Social Media Critics
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has brushed off online criticism following his decisive re‑election victory, declaring that “there are no polling units on social media.”
Speaking after the election, the governor likened good governance to farming, noting that a farmer who has diligently tilled the soil does not interfere on harvest day. He added that those who have not contributed to the state’s development often resort to media attacks and online commentary.
“If you have performed well, the people will vote for you. If you have nothing constructive to offer besides granting interviews and spreading falsehoods, you will find yourself merely whipping up sentiments on social platforms,” Oyebanji said. “Yesterday was their day of reckoning.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that Governor Oyebanji secured 319,224 votes, defeating Peoples Democratic Party candidate Wole Oluyede, who garnered 40,543 votes. Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress placed third with 12,872 votes.
Oyebanji won every one of Ekiti’s 16 local government areas. Out of 384,940 accredited voters, 375,777 ballots were valid while 6,332 were rejected.
