Social media analyst VeryDarkMan has criticized the Nigerian armed forces’ approach to the nation’s persistent security issues, contrasting historical and current reactions to assaults.
Past Military Response to Attacks
In an Instagram video, the activist recounted that, historically, whenever troops were attacked, whole communities were subjected to collective punishment, irrespective of whether individuals were involved.
He remarked, “I recall that in the past, if any incident occurred in a locality involving Nigerian Army personnel, the entire area would be locked down. Regardless of one’s participation, residents would be beaten.”
Alleged General Abduction and Lack of Action
VeryDarkMan also voiced worry about the alleged kidnapping of a senior officer by bandits, asking why the purported hideout has not been stormed by forces.
He continued, “Moving forward to 2026, militants seized a senior officer, held him in the wilderness until his death, then returned his corpse to the community. After his demise, they freed his spouse, yet to this day the Nigerian Army has not launched an operation against that stronghold.”
Funding Management Concerns
He further suggested that ongoing insecurity could stem from mismanagement of security budgets, urging a detailed examination of how funds are distributed and spent.
Public Reaction and Calls for Reform
His remarks have sparked fresh discussion online, with numerous Nigerians debating military responsibility and advocating for tougher measures against banditry and abduction nationwide.
