Wilfred Ndidi Appointed Besiktas Vice-Captain in Leadership Reshuffle

Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has been entrusted with new responsibilities at Turkish club Beşiktaş, having been named as the team’s vice-captain in a leadership reshuffle announced on Friday.

Ndidi, who has impressed since joining the Istanbul-based club, will serve as deputy to Turkish international Orkun Kökçü, who now assumes the captain’s role. Both players assume their new roles following the departure of long-serving skipper Necip Uysal and goalkeeper Mert Günok, who previously shared the captaincy.

In an official statement, Beşiktaş clarified the decision: “With the decision of our President Serdal Adali and the Board of Directors, changes have been made regarding the captaincy of our Football A Team. Based on the recommendation of our technical team and the effectiveness of players on the field, Orkun Kökçü has been appointed as first captain and Wilfred Ndidi as second captain.”

The club also expressed gratitude to Uysal and Günok for their years of leadership and expressed confidence that Kökçü and Ndidi will guide the team with equal dedication and professionalism.

Beşiktaş currently occupies sixth place in the Turkish Super Lig, having gathered 13 points from seven matches. Ndidi and Kökçü will officially begin their captaincy duties when Beşiktaş hosts Gençlerbirliği S.K. later on Friday, October 18, in their Matchday 8 encounter.
