Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olabode George, has expressed strong disapproval of the recent defection of Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a recent interview with Vanguard, George described the governor’s decision as “a shame,” emphasizing that the move goes beyond a simple change of political party. He noted that the refusal of the deputy governor and other PDP leaders in Bayelsa to defect alongside Diri indicates deeper issues.
George questioned the rationale behind the defection, pointing to the current state of the nation. He stated, “It is a shame on him because a rolling stone gathers no moss. Something must be attracting them to the APC because what impact has the party had on Nigerians that has made Nigerians happy?”
He further elaborated on the challenges facing Nigerians: “The debt portfolio of the country has increased; if you go to the market, people are lamenting; young people are graduating, there is no hope. So I don’t know what is driving them there (APC).”
George also referenced the political situation in other states, noting, “As for Peter Mbah, there was this secretaryship tussle, but we begged them to be patient that Samuel Anyanwu’s tenure would expire by the middle of next month.”
Other recent political developments include the defection of Jonathan’s ex-aide, Dudafa, from the PDP to the APC, and reports that the PDP has dropped its National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, replacing him with Chris Uche for the upcoming convention legal battle.
