Governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) convened in a closed-door session on Thursday night at the Kebbi State Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
The APC National Chairman, Dr Nentawe Yilwatda, was present in Kebbi State but did not participate in the meeting.
According to Channels Television, Yilwatda had other commitments in the state.
In a statement announcing his arrival, Yilwatda mentioned that in addition to the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) meeting, he would also attend the inauguration of the Tinubu Kauran Gwandu Movement for Continuity State Secretariat.
Yilwatda stated, “Over the next two days, APC governors will engage in closed-door sessions to deliberate on critical national and party matters. As a party, we remain committed to the unity, good governance, and the vision of the Renewed Hope for all Nigerians.”
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State recently joined the ranks of APC governors, while Governor Douye Diri, who also left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is expected to join the ruling party soon.
Recent Political Shifts
In recent developments, several prominent politicians have switched their party affiliations. Governor Makinde has indicated that only a specific defection would influence his own decisions. Similarly, former lawmaker Ben Murray-Bruce has publicly discussed his reasons for leaving the PDP to join the APC.
In Bayelsa State, a senator has also made the switch from the PDP to the APC. This move has been met with various reactions, including calls for unity and continued opposition from figures like Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
