Two Zamfara State lawmakers have exited the All Progressives Congress (APC).
They cited ongoing internal wrangling and leadership problems within the party.
The lawmakers are Shamsudeen Hassan Basko and Nura Dahiru. Basko represents Talata-Mafara North Constituency. Dahiru serves Birnin-Magaji Constituency. They submitted their resignation letters on December 3.
In his letter, Basko explained his reasons. He cited ongoing internal crises and poor leadership. He also mentioned the marginalisation of members at state and local levels.
He explained, “Persistent crises, internal divisions, and poor leadership prompted my exit. The sidelining of members also played a role.”
Basko added that remaining in the party no longer aligned with his convictions. It also did not serve the best interests of his constituents.
For his part, Dahiru also explained his departure. He stated his exit was essential. He wants to pursue ideals and causes. These better reflect the aspirations of his constituents.
He stated, “My departure from the APC will allow me to pursue causes. These better represent the aspirations of the people I serve.”
After his resignation, Dahiru formally defected. He joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State.
