Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has highlighted the indispensable role of physical appearance in the entertainment industry. She believes its importance cannot be overstated.
Jegede shared her views during an interview with Hip TV. She addressed the ongoing debate about actors securing roles based on their physique and complexion, rather than solely on talent.
The Primacy of Looks in Showbiz
The seasoned actress strongly argued that looks are fundamental in showbiz. She emphasized that what viewers see directly influences patronage and business success.
Jegede explained, “Actors can rely on many factors, not just looks. However, appearance is crucial because this is showbiz. What you present to people ultimately drives business. So, appearance matters a great deal.”
She acknowledged that some individuals have secured roles through other means, without necessarily depending on their looks. “But if you choose to rely on your appearance, and that’s your strongest asset, then put it forward. This principle applies across various industries,” she added.
Nollywood Payments: A Matter of Dues
Addressing the issue of payment within Nollywood, Jegede stated that remuneration depends on an actor’s milestones and the dues they have paid. She believes that sustained presence and dedication lead to fair compensation.
“If you’ve been in the industry long enough and have paid your dues, you will undoubtedly be paid your worth,” Jegede affirmed. “I cannot speak for everyone, but for me, Nollywood covers my expenses. Not all my bills, but it certainly helps. So, I am content with the current state of Nollywood compared to previous times.”
