The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has expelled one of its members. Uzokwe Peter is a member of the House of Representatives. The party cited allegations of anti-party activities and gross misconduct.
This decision was formalized in a communiqué. It was issued after the party’s 24th Extra-Ordinary National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. The meeting took place in Abuja on December 4, 2025.
The NEC is the party’s highest decision-making body. It endorsed an earlier expulsion decision. This decision came from the National Working Committee (NWC).
Uzokwe Peter represents the Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency.
Reasons for Expulsion
Multiple petitions were received against him. Verified video evidence also emerged. These showed anti-party activities and gross misconduct. These were the primary reasons for his expulsion.
The YPP stated that his actions violated their constitution. Specifically, they contravened Section 36(7), Article (b, f & o). These sections are found on pages 70 and 71.
The party reaffirmed its strong stance. It has a “zero-tolerance policy.” This applies to acts that undermine unity, discipline, and cohesion.
Other NEC Decisions
The NEC also approved new national officers. They will fill existing vacancies within the party structure. This move complies with Section 82(1), (2), and (3) of the Electoral Act, 2022.
Furthermore, the NEC passed a unanimous vote of confidence. This was for the National Chairman, Bishop Amakiri.
