The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has expelled one of its members from the House of Representatives. Hon. Uzokwe Peter faced allegations of anti-party activities. He was also accused of gross misconduct.
The party formalized this decision in a communiqué. It was issued after the party’s 24th Extra-Ordinary National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. The meeting took place in Abuja on December 4, 2025.
The NEC is the party’s highest decision-making body. It endorsed an earlier expulsion decision. This decision was initially made by the National Working Committee (NWC).
Who is Uzokwe Peter?
Uzokwe Peter represents a significant constituency. He serves the Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency.
Reasons for Expulsion
The YPP cited multiple petitions against Peter Uzokwe. Verified video evidence also pointed to anti-party activities. These actions were deemed gross misconduct by the party.
The party stated that these actions violated its constitution. Specifically, they breached Section 36(7), Article (b, f & o). These sections are found on pages 70 and 71 of the YPP constitution.
The YPP reaffirmed its commitment to party discipline. It maintains a “zero-tolerance policy.” This policy applies to any acts that undermine unity, discipline, and cohesion within the party.
Other NEC Decisions
During the same meeting, the NEC made other key approvals. It approved the election of several national officers. These officers will fill existing vacancies in the party structure. This move complies with Section 82(1), (2), and (3) of the Electoral Act, 2022.
The NEC also passed a unanimous vote of confidence. This vote was in favour of the National Chairman, Bishop Amakiri.
