The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has expelled one of its House of Representatives members. This member is Uzokwe Peter. His expulsion follows serious allegations of anti-party activities and gross misconduct.
The party formalized this decision through a communiqué. It was issued after the 24th Extra-Ordinary National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. This crucial meeting took place in Abuja on December 4, 2025.
The NEC serves as the YPP’s highest decision-making body. It fully endorsed the expulsion. This decision was first made by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Rep. Uzokwe Peter represents the Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency.
The YPP cited multiple petitions and verified video evidence. These materials clearly showed anti-party activities. Such actions constitute gross misconduct, leading to his removal.
The party stated these actions violated its constitution. Specifically, they breached Section 36(7), Article (b, f & o). These articles are found on pages 70 and 71 of the YPP constitution.
The YPP reaffirmed its “zero-tolerance policy.” This strict policy applies to any acts. These acts must not undermine the party’s unity, discipline, and cohesion.
Other Key Decisions by the YPP NEC
Beyond the expulsion, the NEC also made other important decisions. It approved the election of several new national officers. These officers will fill existing vacancies within the party structure. This move aligns with Section 82(1), (2), and (3) of the Electoral Act, 2022.
Furthermore, the NEC passed a unanimous vote of confidence. This vote was in support of the National Chairman, Bishop Amakiri.
