Nigerian Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola has shed light on her recent public apology to veteran actor Afeez Owo. Toriola explained her decision, stating it was rooted in her identity as a “true ambassador of culture.”
The Public Disagreement
The disagreement between the two actors began when Afeez Owo publicly commented on Toriola’s on-screen persona. He suggested her roles in films were “similar to her character in real life.” Afeez added that “violence is her comfort zone.”
The veteran actor further noted that Wumi does not tolerate disrespect. He claimed she reacts strongly when people push her. Wumi initially responded on her Instagram page. She criticized Afeez’s interview, labeling it “rubbish.” She also questioned why every rift in the industry ended up on a podcast.
A Public Reconciliation
In a surprising turn of events, Wumi and Afeez recently reconciled. This happened at the movie premiere of their colleague, actor Odunlade Adekola. A video from the event quickly went viral online.

The footage showed Wumi approaching Afeez. She knelt before him, offering a heartfelt apology. She was heard saying, “I’m sorry, sir. Please forgive me.” Afeez initially appeared hesitant. However, he eventually lifted her to her feet and embraced her.
Why Toriola Chose Peace
Taking to her Instagram page on Tuesday, Toriola further elaborated on her decision. She emphasized her choice for peace. She also highlighted the importance of respecting elders, even amidst anger.
Wumi wrote, “I chose to apologise to our Legend because I am a true ambassador of culture. Even in ‘anger,’ our elders should be off limits.”
She continued, “Our elders deserve calm waters, not raised voices. Once again, to our Fans, friends, no more grudges. I have chosen Peace.” She concluded her message by thanking Afeez Owo for his forgiving spirit.
