On Tuesday, supporters of the Nyesom Wike faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took control of the streets. These streets surrounded Wadata Plaza in Abuja. Wadata Plaza is the party’s national headquarters, located in Wuse Zone 5.
The demonstrators were primarily women and youth groups. They carried placards. These placards bore messages directly targeting Tanimu Turaki, SAN. Turaki is the PDP National Chairman.
Inscriptions like “No to Turaki” and “Turaki must go” were visible. Other similar messages were also displayed.
Both PDP factions had previously issued notices. They announced parallel executive meetings at the secretariat for Tuesday. This action set the stage for a confrontation.
By 9:45 a.m., the Wike-backed faction had effectively taken over the secretariat and its surrounding areas. Abdulrahman Mohammed, the sacked Acting National Chairman, led the group. They marched into the premises. A large contingent of heavily armed police officers accompanied them.
Police officers mounted strategic positions. They were stationed along adjoining streets. They formed tight security rings around the building. This was to prevent any escalation of hostilities.
As of the time of this report, no leader from the Turaki faction had arrived at Wadata Plaza. Pro-Wike protesters maintained firm control of the streets.
