Shettima Leads High-Profile APC Welcome
Vice President Kashim Shettima has headed a significant delegation from Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The delegation formally welcomed Bayelsa State Governor Duoye Diri to the party. This follows Diri’s confirmed departure from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor’s Public Confirmation
Governor Diri announced his political switch during the 14th Bayelsa Thanksgiving Day. The event took place at Igbogene’s Ecumenical Centre in Yenagoa. He described the move as a difficult decision made for Bayelsa’s benefit. Diri had resigned from PDP on October 15 after weeks of negotiations.
Development-Focused Decision
Addressing his defection publicly for the first time, Diri acknowledged potential criticism. He stated his motivations would become clearer over time. The governor emphasized that politics should prioritize citizen development. His administration will ensure Bayelsans receive democracy’s benefits.
Diri also highlighted Bayelsa’s improved peace and security situation. He cited this as reason for continued gratitude to God among residents.
