A recent claim has generated significant social media discussion. A man alleges that police officers escorting Very Important Persons (VIPs) now wear business suits. He states this practice circumvents President Bola Tinubu’s directive.
President Bola Tinubu recently ordered the withdrawal of police personnel from VIPs. Many Nigerians applauded this decision. However, some citizens voiced concerns regarding its implementation.
Reports Indicate VIPs Sidestepping New Security Directives
The Nigerian Police confirmed the withdrawal of these officers. This announcement came shortly after the President’s order.
An X (formerly Twitter) user named Ayekooto recently made a strong accusation. He asserted that some VIPs have not released their police escorts. These officers, he claims, now wear suits. This helps them avoid public detection.
Ayekooto specifically stated: “Some police officers guarding VIPs use a new tactic. They wear suits, not uniforms. This helps them bypass public scrutiny. It follows Mr President’s recent directive.”
He further urged, “The Inspector General should investigate this trend. No officer or VIP should defy the Commander-in-Chief.”
Public Response to the Allegations
The online post sparked diverse reactions from Nigerians. They freely shared their perspectives.
Ademola Alaniyi highlighted the perceived benefits for officers. He questioned why they would leave their comfortable positions. These include free accommodation and constant power supply at VIP residences.
Odunayo argued for disciplinary action. He stated officers must face consequences. This would prevent them from flouting presidential and IG directives with impunity.
Akinnagbe pointed out a lack of concrete data. He questioned if the Inspector General knew the exact number of officers deployed. This data is crucial for effective enforcement.
Solace2mins challenged the IG’s authority. He questioned the IG’s ability to enforce orders. He also drew parallels to past issues like police brutality. He implied weak leadership.
Kolawole Kihinde expressed frustration. He questioned why VIPs and law enforcement agents persist in wrongdoings. He found their behavior unruly.
