Galatasaray president Durzan Özbek has provided a hopeful update on Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. The star forward is expected to make a timely return for the club’s highly anticipated derby clash against Fenerbahçe.
Osimhen’s recent injury kept him out of today’s Super Lig fixture against Gençlerbirliği. This absence forced Coach Okan Buruk to adjust his tactical plans for the weekend encounter.
His injury also meant he missed a crucial World Cup qualification match for Nigeria. During this period, the Super Eagles suffered a 4-3 penalty shootout defeat to DR Congo.
Despite these setbacks, Özbek remains optimistic about Osimhen’s recovery. He has set his sights firmly on the marquee showdown scheduled for December 1st.
“He’ll likely have a recovery period of approximately two weeks,” Özbek confirmed to Hurriyet. “Our primary focus is on Osimhen being fully ready for the Fenerbahçe match.”
The president further added, “Our medical team is diligently working to ensure his quick and effective recovery.”
The 26-year-old Nigerian international has been a standout performer for Galatasaray this season. He has netted an impressive nine goals in just twelve league appearances. His consistent contributions have established him as one of the team’s most reliable players.
