Werder Bremen striker Victor Boniface has openly discussed his scoring difficulties with Nigeria’s national team, admitting frustration over his goal drought while on international duty. The Bayer Leverkusen loanee shared his feelings in an interview with Nigerian sports journalist Oma Akatugba.
The 24-year-old acknowledged fan disappointment but emphasized his enduring pride in wearing Nigeria’s colors. Boniface stated: “I’ve been unlucky with the national team regarding goals, though I admit some performances weren’t good enough. Representing Nigeria was my biggest dream. Achieving this makes me grateful.”
Despite being hailed as one of Nigeria’s brightest forward prospects, Boniface’s club success hasn’t translated to the Super Eagles. He struggles to find the net when playing for his country.
“Struggles in a few matches don’t define me,” Boniface asserted. “They don’t diminish my pride whenever I represent Nigeria. Missing chances tests my patience, but I won’t let it break me.”
The striker draws resilience from overcoming career-threatening injuries. “Coming from humble beginnings, I’ve faced serious setbacks. Every day I thank God for my career. Being here is truly a blessing,” he reflected.
Boniface defended his Leverkusen record, noting: “I scored eight goals despite missing many games. Calling that a bad season makes no sense to me.”
Addressing criticism about his social media activity, Boniface remained unfazed. “I post lighthearted content. If people exaggerate it, that’s their choice. My posts harm no one. Critics complained when I stopped posting, and still complain when I post.”
Regarding failed transfer talks with AC Milan, Boniface revealed calmness. “When the Milan move collapsed, I relaxed with friends. These things happen in football. I genuinely love Germany,” he stated.
Despite challenges, Boniface remains committed to his Super Eagles journey. “I’m always proud to play for Nigeria. Though difficult, I believe my time will come. I’ll keep working hard and stay ready for every call-up,” he concluded.
