Former Super Eagles striker Victor Anichebe has strongly criticized the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). His remarks follow the national team’s inability to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Anichebe expressed his deep disappointment on Instagram. This came after Nigeria’s dramatic defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo. The African playoff final concluded with a 4-3 penalty shootout loss in Rabat on Sunday night. This result extinguished hopes of the Super Eagles returning to the World Cup.
This setback marks Nigeria’s second consecutive absence from the prestigious tournament. The situation has ignited significant anger among both fans and former players.
Anichebe questioned the current direction of Nigerian football. He emphasized that genuine progress requires authorities to engage in “serious conversations.”
The former Everton star articulated his views. He stated, “Real change demands selflessness, long-term thinking, and building foundations. These efforts may not yield instant rewards.”
The retired Nigerian international further added to his critique. He asserted, “If we desire serious outcomes, then we must initiate serious conversations. These must, in turn, lead to serious decisions.”
