Umar Sani, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has declared a significant decision. He stated that the suspension of factional members loyal to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, is final. This action occurred during the party’s national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
This declaration comes amidst a growing leadership dispute within the PDP. The party is currently experiencing multiple suspensions and counter-suspensions. These actions stem from opposing factions. One is allied with Minister Wike, while the other supports the party’s national leadership.
Sani also criticized recent suspension moves by Wike’s faction. He maintained that this group lacks the authority to sanction anyone within the party. According to Sani, Wike’s faction itself was expelled through a formal process. This process took place openly during the convention, not in secret.
“First and foremost,” Sani explained, “a person expelled from the party at the national convention has no right. They cannot go into hiding and then create a list. They cannot claim to have expelled other people when they themselves have already been expelled by a convention.”
He further clarified the legitimacy of the initial expulsions. “We did not expel them in hiding. We did not simply write names and expel them. A motion was moved at the convention. Chief Bode George moved that motion. It was then seconded and subsequently passed at our national convention.”
Sani emphasized the legal standing of the convention’s decisions. “No court in the land, anywhere, has ever declared that convention illegal, null, or void. No court has set it aside. Therefore, the outcome of a convention is final,” he concluded.
