A UK-based Nigerian woman has recently sparked a notable online discussion. She asserts that many Nigerian men residing in the United Kingdom are experiencing severe health complications. These issues, she claims, often arise from significant financial pressure. This burden is reportedly imposed upon them by their wives.
In a compelling video shared across social media, the woman elaborated on her allegations. She noted that numerous couples earn comparable salaries. In some instances, wives even earn more. Despite this, the husband frequently bears the entire financial responsibility for the household.

Unequal Household Financial Contributions
She explained that many women allocate their personal income to individual projects. They also frequently provide financial support to relatives back home in Nigeria. Conversely, their husbands typically manage all household expenses, carrying the full financial weight.
Health Repercussions of Persistent Stress
The woman, who works within the healthcare sector, further disclosed a distressing pattern. She observed a significant number of Black men at her hospital suffering from stress-related ailments. Strokes, she highlighted, are particularly prevalent among them.
She expressed deep concern regarding the overwhelming responsibilities placed on Nigerian men in the UK. She questioned the fairness when both partners earn similar salaries, yet the wife retains her earnings for personal desires. These wives often send money to their own families. Meanwhile, husbands utilize all their funds to cater for their immediate family. This dynamic is reinforced by the expectation of being the “man of the house.” It particularly pains her to witness so many Black men in her hospital suffering from strokes. Some are as young as 45, which she finds unacceptable. She attributes these health crises directly to intense stress. Men are compelled to carry burdens beyond their capacity, accepting them due to societal roles.
