The Cranes landed in Group C alongside Nigeria, Tunisia, and Tanzania. Many expect Nigeria and Tunisia to dominate the group. Put insists Uganda won’t be intimidated by their experienced opponents.
“Nigeria remains a perennial powerhouse,” Put told CAFonline. He acknowledged the Super Eagles’ squad depth. Their players feature top talent with European experience. “We respect them but aren’t intimidated,” the coach emphasized. “We’ll give a strong account of ourselves.”
The Belgian tactician understands high-level continental competition. He previously guided Burkina Faso to the 2013 AFCON final. Nigeria defeated them 1-0 in that championship match. Put now aims to replicate that competitive spirit with Uganda.
The Cranes return to AFCON after missing the 2021 edition. Their last appearance in 2019 ended in the Round of 16. Since taking charge in 2023, Put has steadily rebuilt the squad.
Uganda begins their campaign against Tunisia on December 23. They’ll then face Tanzania before concluding against Nigeria. The tournament promises exciting matchups in Group C.
